Middle School Faith Formation

What is Ichthys?

The word “ichthys” is a Greek word that means “fish”. The ichthys is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, resembling the profile of a fish.

ἸΧΘΥΣ, is an acronym  for "Ἰησοῦς Χρῑστός Θεοῦ Υἱός Σωτήρ”, which translates into English as 'Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior'. The first appearances of the ichthys in Christian art and literature dates to the 2nd century. In modern times it is a symbol of a witnessing Christian.

"We are called to bear witness to Jesus right where we live, in our families, at work, everywhere, even just by giving the light of a smile, a light that is not our own – it comes from Jesus."
- Pope Francis

Here at Corpus Christi, Ichthys is our Middle School Ministry which encourages our 6th – 8th grade students to explore their Catholic faith. We support ministry to, with, and by middle school students, seeking to draw them into a responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of our Catholic faith community.

With an emphasis on social justice, moral reasoning, and service, we will use the Pflaum Visions curriculum. Middle school students will explore through current-interest articles, life-dilemma stories, and real Christian life examples. Discussion starters help young teens explore links between today’s issues, the Sunday readings, and their own lives.

Through our Ichthys program, we partner with parents and families in our Children’s Faith Formation. Classes are offered on campus on Wednesdays at Corpus Christi from 4:30 – 5:45 pm. A Home Study option is also available for grades 1-8.
