An Easter Message From Father Tim

Dear Corpus Christi,
*
I invite you on this Easter day to take a moment, be still, catch your breath, close your eyes, and visualize the Risen Lord standing in front of you with his outstretched and pierced hands saying: “Have I told you lately that I love you?”
*
And that is Easter!
*
And our response is: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.”
*
When I read the various gospel narratives of the resurrection, I notice that the Resurrection of Christ often surpasses human understanding.
*
The evangelist John writes in 20:9: “For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” I take consolation that each of the disciples-those who had journeyed with the Lord for three years-had their own unique experience. That each one given their level of faith gradually came to full resurrected faith in the Risen Lord. I take consolation because like the disciples Easter is beyond my understanding.
*
I struggle to say what is beyond words, because Risen Life is and will always be a mystery. Though the Resurrection is beyond my understanding, this I do know, I believe in the Resurrection.
*
During this pandemic we stand together as Corpus Christi and say:
*
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
*
The sign of Jesus’ resurrection is the stone rolled back from the tomb. Nothing can keep us from God, not even death itself. It is not the force of human hands that removes the stone. It is the love of God. On Easter morning we come face-to-face with the empty tomb and know the proclamation of St. Paul:
*
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-39).
*
May the Lord bring us all to full resurrected faith!
*
My blessing is being your pastor now, and for many years to come!
