Does Lazarus, who Jesus raises from the dead, get special treatment? After all, he and his sisters, Mary and Martha, are close friends of the Lord.

Yes, Lazarus is treated differently because he's Christ's friend--but the truth is that we are all invited into friendship with Jesus through our baptism and living the Christian life. Jesus desires to bring the gift of resurrection to each of us: to overcome those areas in our lives marked by death, and also to bring us to the fullness of eternal life at the end of our earthly lives.

Jesus does treat his friends special, but thank God that we are all called to be his friends.

The Annunciation of the Lord, when Mary accepted God's plan and Christ was conceived within her by the Holy Spirit, is one of the most important moments in human history. We celebrate that moment TODAY!

It's also one of the most popularly depicted scenes in religious art. Here are four paintings of the Annunciation, from Fra Angelico, Tanner, Botticelli, and El Greco.

Concern for doctrine and pastoral charity are sometimes pitted against each other. St. Turibius of Mogrovejo shows us that the two actually belong together.

The Spanish priest was a major figure in the Inquisition before becoming the Archbishop of Lima. In Peru, he devoted himself to serving his people and promoting the teachings of the Council of Trent. He produced a catechism in indigenous languages, and was renowned for defending native rights against colonial oppression.
