What does Jesus mean that he brings sight to those who cannot see, and blindness to those who already see?

It's all a question of self-reliance: those who think they already see have no need for healing; but those born blind know that they have something to receive. May our penances this Lenten season help to free us from self-reliance, deepening our dependence upon God and allowing us to receive from him evermore fully.

We all know St. Patrick as the patron of Ireland. But did you know he's also the patron saint of engineers?

Here's why: Part of Patrick's evangelizing mission included building the very first churches on the Emerald Isle. In the process, he introduced more advanced forms of construction, including lime mortar and arches, to the Irish people... St. Patrick, patron of engineers and of Ireland, pray for us!

Today marks the "Ides of March," when Julius Caesar was betrayed and murdered by his friends.

The sin of treachery is considered so great, that in his Inferno, Dante depicted the two chief co-conspirators against Caesar--Brutus and Cassius--in the lowest circle of hell, constantly chewed upon by Satan alongside Judas Iscariot himself.

We may not have assassinated a Roman emperor, but the Ides of March is a good time to reflect upon the "little" betrayals we make against God and our neighbor so we can seek forgiveness and resolve to mend our ways.
