Sometimes we hold on to those things that are not God's will--bitterness, resentment, anger, and pain, just to name a few. Let's cleanse our hearts of anything that is acidic (sin) and fill it with the honey of grace so that we can do God's will out in the world!

His official name is St. Pius of Pietrelcina, but we know him best as Padre Pio. He was a modern-day mystic, a powerful reminder that even in our day of "scientism" and hyper-technology, God's power and love are still supreme. Padre Pio, pray for us!

Case in point: Matthew's lengthy genealogy of Jesus, which he includes at the start of his Gospel, and which you're probably familiar with from Christmas Eve Mass. Who has our ultimate loyalty: God, or the things of the world? While we'd like to say "God," the truth is that we can always grow in freedom from worldly attachments. There are little ways to do this: donate some of those extra outfits or contribute some spending money to charity. Take a moment today to prayerfully discern how God might be asking you to rededicate yourself to him by freeing yourself from worldly attachments.
